This salad is so nice for the hot summer weather right now, it's juicy and crunchy and light in the stomach and so easy to make! In China we eat a lot of black sesame seeds, especially women. It is said that it helps keep the hair from turning gray and has high anti-aging properties. The Chinese use the white sesame seeds for edible purposes and more the black ones for medicinal purposes. This seed contains high levels of Vitamin E, helping to promote cell division and healthy skin. These seeds are rich in sesamin and sesamolin, which can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels, which is key to good heart health.

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead is one of my favourite documentaries in regards to food health and transformation. It documents one man's journey from being overweight, sick and unwell, his decision to juice his way back to health over a 60 day cross country trip around the States inspiring others to regain their health. I started juicing around 7 years ago, and each year I make sure I do a juice cleanse just to reboot my entire system. So take some time, and enjoy this movie!
This article is an interesting read for anyone suffering from pain to do with any sort of inflammatory diseases. As science progresses we learn more about how certain types of illnesses and conditions affect the body. Good and bad gut bacteria has been a hot topic in recent year with fermented goodies such as sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha and even cheese and yogurt, and how we need a balance of good gut bacteria to keep our bodies healthy and happy.
What you eat affects the body so much, as Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food". So whilst we can exercise and keep our bodies healthy from the outside in, the most thing to start on the inside, and eat our way to health and heal the body with diet! When I was at the Bikram Training last year in Phuket I met a trainee Carina who shared my love of one pieces and recently she has shared her inspirational story of how Bikram yoga has changed her life. "I'm here to prove that this yoga is transformational," she said. "If you're open to receiving, you never know what the universe will give you. I'm so grateful to be where I am." Bikram Yoga is not just a physical workout, it's a deeply therapeutic way of healing the body, mind and soul and I see it every time I'm in the room, teaching or practicing. The yoga has certainly transformed my life for the better, building myself back from so many physical ailments and getting rid of depression and mind clutter. This article is just another reminder of how wonderful this yoga is!
This is a variation on the raw coconut yogurt I posted up a few weeks ago. Coconuts contain one of the healthiest oils on earth, the meat contains medium fatty chain acids which are broken down faster and also helps to reduce cholesterol levels. It also contains high level of manganese, which helps stabilize blood sugar levels as well as synthesize fats and proteins, balancing moods and increasing your capacity to overcome stress. This version combines the healthy benefits of blueberries and cherries for a delicious treat any time of the day. It's great for breakfast to get your day started!
Jim Kallett, a senior Bikram Yoga teacher, who graduated in 1997 during Bikram's 5th Yoga Teacher Training, owner of Bikram Yoga San Diego is hosting a 13 week internet radio talk show where he discusses everything to do with yoga, and how it addresses the fundamental questions and concerns of life. It will focus on some history of Yoga, especially in the West, what is Yoga, current trends and what it means, the practical application of Yoga, proper techniques, safety, effective use, precautions, and the reality. How the proper practice of Yoga is the best, safest, most scientific tool for improving the quality and longevity of one’s life . The fifth week focuses on Conversation with Jill Ippolito, Uprising Yoga. “Happily, as Yoga has become so increasingly more accessible and practiced by more and more people around the world, I am excited to be able to contribute to the redirection of the discussion of Yoga (especially Bikram Yoga), back to it’s primary principles, to the practice of Hatha Yoga Asana done safely, effectively, and properly. It’s more important than ever….”

As a Bikram teacher I find that other teachers or practitioners from other styles of yoga quite often offer such resistance when they come into the hot room, or have some preconceived notion when they heard that we teach 'hot' yoga. I remember a friend and fellow teacher who participated in a yoga CPR course, and when she introduced herself as a Bikram teacher, a Vinyasa teacher made a face and said to her "you will never see me in a Bikram room".

"I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become" Carl Gustave Jung I'm Binny, a full time Bikram Yoga teacher and studio owner that lives in Perth, Australia.
I started this blog to share the things I love the best in the world: being healthy and happy, food (especially raw), yoga, traveling and most importantly, learning how to love and be true to myself. I suffered from severe digestive problems when I was younger, being gluten and lactose intolerant, and developed compartment syndrome and fibromyalgia in my teens. I have lived with constant pain for over 16 years now. Over the past 10 years, I've shifted to a mainly plant based diet and realised that being well and healthy is a way of life. I have been teaching Bikram yoga since 2011, in the US and Australia. Due to my health issues I've also had a lot of bodywork done as well as explored alternative therapies. I've become much more aware of myself as a result of all this - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Right now I love my life. In my career I love what I do and I do what I love. I have traveled to some amazing places around the world and made lifelong friends. In between working and traveling, I cook up a storm in the kitchen, especially raw desserts, spend time with the people I love the best, which now includes a yoga husband, a mini yogini Estell, and our dog! I try to listen to my body the best I can. I truly believe that we all have the power and the capabilities to heal our own bodies, to nourish the spirit and seek our own happiness and life's purpose. This my journey... Archives
