Basil & Chilli Quinoa Stir Fry

I love the smell of fresh basil and it's a great ingredient to cook with. It features in Italian and Thai food, both of which I love but cannot eat too much of due to my intolerance. Therefore I have to get creative with some vegan recipes! I had a hankering after Thai stir fry and wanted it to be more filling than just veggies so I added quinoa into the mix. This superfood in an ancient grain that packs in the protein. I chose black quinoa since it's more crunchy than the other colours just to balance out the softness of the veggies. The basil flavour comes through beautifully in this Thai inspired dish.

Each year after she has lost the stiffness in her fingers and has much more mobility. This article goes through someone's journey with arthritis and Bikram as well as explaining the many benefits! Joseph Encinia, 2011 Male World Champion, was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at a young age, going through years of pain and hospital visits, suffering from a heart attack at the age of 13. Through Bikram, he has not only strengthened his whole body, he has surpassed doctor's expectations, honed his body and going on to competing and winning the yoga championships! Detox: Eat lots of Good Food & Stay Fit

This article couldn't have come up at a better time for me. Since I got from my holidays a month ago I've been eating sugar like crazy. At first I was just eating lots in general to gain back the weight I had lost after being sick, then it got into a habit and next thing you know, I was going through a box of cookies a day and the other night I finished off a block of chocolate plus a whole cake! The more I have the more I want, and yes it makes me feel so tired and sluggish all day. So reading this is inspiring me to get healthy and break the sugar cycle which is why I am going on a 5 day liquid cleanse. I managed to do 3 days last week but then went on a bit of a sugar binge so this time I'm in for 5 days, breaking the sugar cycle! Since it's winter here I don't want to do just juices, so this will include smoothies and soups as well. I'll post up the results next week as well as the recipes, here's to a new week!

Lemon Garlic Oyster Mushrooms

I had this dish in one of the best restaurants in the world, Tamam on the island Rhodes in Greece. My lemon tree is over brimming with bright yellow lemons so as soon as I came home, I jumped at the chance to recreate it in my own way.

I love mushrooms, they have such a wonderful earthy flavour and goes with everything. They contain some of the world's most potent medicines. There are over 140,000 species of fungi, each delivering a tremendous boots to the immune system. The most common being button, swiss, crimini, enoki, oyster, portobello and shiitake. Low in calories, fat free, cholesterol free and low in sodium, they provide important nutrients including Vitamin D, protein, enzymes, B vitamins and selenium.

This dish is a wonderful side accompaniment to any mains, or if you adore mushrooms, as I do, you can serve it as a main dish with quinoa or rice. The simplicity of the dish brings out all the flavour, and it takes less than 10 mins to prepare. If you can't find oysters try using field or button variety, the flavour will be a bit more earthy but still delicious!

3 Reasons To Give Up Meat

This was a good read, I have eaten meat in the past and everyone has to find the diet that is good for their optimum health and wellbeing, but it certainly doesn't hurt to broaden ones mind and try new things! I never force my views on my friends or other people when it comes to food, nor do I expect they do it to me, but it's always interesting having a read about different points of view.

"I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become"
    Carl Gustave Jung

I'm Binny, a full time Bikram Yoga teacher and studio owner that lives in Perth, Australia.

I started this blog to share the things I love the best in the world: being healthy and happy, food (especially raw), yoga, traveling and most importantly, learning how to love and be true to myself.

I suffered from severe digestive problems when I was younger, being gluten and lactose intolerant, and developed compartment syndrome and fibromyalgia in my teens. I have lived with constant pain for over 16 years now.

Over the past 10 years, I've shifted to a mainly plant based diet and realised that being well and healthy is a way of life. I have been teaching Bikram yoga since 2011, in the US and Australia. Due to my health issues I've also had a lot of bodywork done as well as explored alternative therapies.

I've become much more aware of myself as a result of all this - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Right now I love my life. In my career I love what I do and I do what I love. I have traveled to some amazing places around the world and made lifelong friends. In between working and traveling, I cook up a storm in the kitchen, especially raw  desserts, spend time with the people I love the best, which now includes a yoga husband, a mini yogini Estell, and our dog! I try to listen to my body the best I can.

I truly believe that we all have the power and the capabilities to heal our own bodies, to nourish the spirit and seek our own happiness and life's purpose. This my journey...
