Every Saturday or Sunday morning, as long as I am not teaching class, Dad and I have our weekly ritual of heading bright and early to the markets at Subiaco Station Street. As well as stocking up on our groceries for the week, we also have some father-daughter bonding time which is always nice.

I love any sort of farmer's market. The produce always smells amazing and seeing the rows and rows of wholesomeness is worth getting up at 7am. Subiaco has most of the staple items I purchase every week - apart from produce, they also have stalls for Prana Health Foods, Angry Almond (their online store is now 2 Brothers), a butcher, The Spice Library, a bakery as well as an array of food stalls from Mexican, Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese, to fresh made crepes and fresh juices.

I also find it much cheaper overall than the normal supermarkets and there is just a better energy in a market with each little stall, the farmers and the owners, than a big commercial building with just people working in there.

My Dad is awesome, he's like superman. Here's him carrying all my groceries and yes there is a lot! I find that when eating raw, I do go through tremendous amounts veggies, especially since I juice every day. However when I compare what I'm spending to that of my friends, it's actually pretty similar. I hardly buy anything processed and no meat either, so that takes some of the bills down.

I have my staple items every week - coconuts, grapefruits, a variety of greens and then whatever fruit & veggies I feel like for week. I have my own veggie garden which produces a small amount of kale, spinach, silverbeet, tomato, turnips and an assortment of herbs. I also have some fruits trees - loquat, orange, lemon and my new blueberry shrub.

Between that and the markets I have a fresh and abundant supply of wholesome goodness!

I would encourage anyone to at check out the markets around Perth, it's good to support the local farmers as well as having a fun outing on the weekend, whilst enjoying some delicious foods!

"I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become"
    Carl Gustave Jung

I'm Binny, a full time Bikram Yoga teacher and studio owner that lives in Perth, Australia.

I started this blog to share the things I love the best in the world: being healthy and happy, food (especially raw), yoga, traveling and most importantly, learning how to love and be true to myself.

I suffered from severe digestive problems when I was younger, being gluten and lactose intolerant, and developed compartment syndrome and fibromyalgia in my teens. I have lived with constant pain for over 16 years now.

Over the past 10 years, I've shifted to a mainly plant based diet and realised that being well and healthy is a way of life. I have been teaching Bikram yoga since 2011, in the US and Australia. Due to my health issues I've also had a lot of bodywork done as well as explored alternative therapies.

I've become much more aware of myself as a result of all this - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Right now I love my life. In my career I love what I do and I do what I love. I have traveled to some amazing places around the world and made lifelong friends. In between working and traveling, I cook up a storm in the kitchen, especially raw  desserts, spend time with the people I love the best, which now includes a yoga husband, a mini yogini Estell, and our dog! I try to listen to my body the best I can.

I truly believe that we all have the power and the capabilities to heal our own bodies, to nourish the spirit and seek our own happiness and life's purpose. This my journey...
