I first met Jeanne Heaton at my teacher training back in 2011. She had such an inspiration story of both her personal and yoga journey. After getting addicted to drugs, she was in and out of rehab facilities until she found the healing benefits of Bikram Yoga. She started One Posture at a Time, a recovery program and mission to help those who are also addicts. This lady now travels around the country, teaching classes, raising awareness and helping those who are truly in need. Just another story of how wonderful Bikram Yoga is!
Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead is one of my favourite documentaries in regards to food health and transformation. It documents one man's journey from being overweight, sick and unwell, his decision to juice his way back to health over a 60 day cross country trip around the States inspiring others to regain their health. I started juicing around 7 years ago, and each year I make sure I do a juice cleanse just to reboot my entire system. So take some time, and enjoy this movie!
When I was at the Bikram Training last year in Phuket I met a trainee Carina who shared my love of one pieces and recently she has shared her inspirational story of how Bikram yoga has changed her life.
"I'm here to prove that this yoga is transformational," she said. "If you're open to receiving, you never know what the universe will give you. I'm so grateful to be where I am."
Bikram Yoga is not just a physical workout, it's a deeply therapeutic way of healing the body, mind and soul and I see it every time I'm in the room, teaching or practicing. The yoga has certainly transformed my life for the better, building myself back from so many physical ailments and getting rid of depression and mind clutter. This article is just another reminder of how wonderful this yoga is!
Time for a detox - I embarked on a 4 day juice cleanse with Pure Glow Cleanse. I came across their website looking at a few juice companies in Perth and theirs connected with me the best. The two ladies Annette and Jacqueline came up with the idea of cold pressed juices in 2013 and once they put their heads together, Pure Glow was born. Anette also runs Wellness WA, a site devoted to all things to do with health, beauty and wellbeing here in WA. Sometimes you have to trust your intuition and I loved what they had to offer. I'm not stranger to juices and I've done a few cleanses in the past, including the master cleanse, but I thought it would be nice to document it, including any detox symptoms I feel for anyone out there thinking about it or wanting to try one :)
This account of a 30 day practice is inspiring. It showcases how much a body can change after a consistent yoga practice. One thing that stood out in the article, which I'm sure many of us can relate to was:
"I'm surprised I like Bikram yoga.
5 or 6 years ago, I tried it out and didn’t like that every class features the same sequence of poses or that certain postures were not included.
I remember thinking it was a bit dangerous for me to be stretching so aggressively and I was worried I’d injure myself... What a difference 6 years makes! Bikram is the same, but now I’m loving it.
I can see that the sequence of postures “unlocks” the body one part at a time (like peeling an onion).
I love the HEAT."
As a Bikram teacher we are always telling our students to be well hydrated when they come to class, because they lose so much in sweat. However in general, you should always be well hydrated. Water is a vital energy source for the body. given that the blood is made up of 92% water. This article lists then benefits of water as well as what happens to the body when it's not receiving enough. Who knew a simple thing like water could affect so many parts of the body?!
This article couldn't have come up at a better time for me. Since I got from my holidays a month ago I've been eating sugar like crazy. At first I was just eating lots in general to gain back the weight I had lost after being sick, then it got into a habit and next thing you know, I was going through a box of cookies a day and the other night I finished off a block of chocolate plus a whole cake! The more I have the more I want, and yes it makes me feel so tired and sluggish all day. So reading this is inspiring me to get healthy and break the sugar cycle which is why I am going on a 5 day liquid cleanse. I managed to do 3 days last week but then went on a bit of a sugar binge so this time I'm in for 5 days, breaking the sugar cycle! Since it's winter here I don't want to do just juices, so this will include smoothies and soups as well. I'll post up the results next week as well as the recipes, here's to a new week!
This was a good read, I have eaten meat in the past and everyone has to find the diet that is good for their optimum health and wellbeing, but it certainly doesn't hurt to broaden ones mind and try new things! I never force my views on my friends or other people when it comes to food, nor do I expect they do it to me, but it's always interesting having a read about different points of view.
This is one of my favourite green juice recipes. All the ingredients are easily available any time of the year, it has the perfect combination of sweetness with loaded greens which gives a big dose of nutrients any time of the day. I have one of these almost every day, usually for breakfast!

I'm Binny, a full time Bikram Yoga teacher and studio owner that lives in Perth, Australia.
I started this blog to share the things I love the best in the world: being healthy and happy, food (especially raw), yoga, traveling and most importantly, learning how to love and be true to myself.
I suffered from severe digestive problems when I was younger, being gluten and lactose intolerant, and developed compartment syndrome and fibromyalgia in my teens. I have lived with constant pain for over 16 years now.
Over the past 10 years, I've shifted to a mainly plant based diet and realised that being well and healthy is a way of life. I have been teaching Bikram yoga since 2011, in the US and Australia. Due to my health issues I've also had a lot of bodywork done as well as explored alternative therapies.
I've become much more aware of myself as a result of all this - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Right now I love my life. In my career I love what I do and I do what I love. I have traveled to some amazing places around the world and made lifelong friends. In between working and traveling, I cook up a storm in the kitchen, especially raw desserts, spend time with the people I love the best, which now includes a yoga husband, a mini yogini Estell, and our dog! I try to listen to my body the best I can.
I truly believe that we all have the power and the capabilities to heal our own bodies, to nourish the spirit and seek our own happiness and life's purpose. This my journey...
