I first met Jeanne Heaton at my teacher training back in 2011. She had such an inspiration story of both her personal and yoga journey. After getting addicted to drugs, she was in and out of rehab facilities until she found the healing benefits of Bikram Yoga. She started One Posture at a Time, a recovery program and mission to help those who are also addicts. This lady now travels around the country, teaching classes, raising awareness and helping those who are truly in need. Just another story of how wonderful Bikram Yoga is!

In 2011 whilst visiting a friend from my teacher training, I came to Bikram Brickell own by Nachos Cano, a singer and record producer from Spain. He was full of energy and always had a smile on his face, my friend told me he swam in the ocean every day, rode everywhere, practiced yoga once a day as well as teach. That energy is part of the studio, everyone loved practicing and it had such a family feel to it. This video shows the dedication of the students in their 50 day challange, sweating it out and loving every minute of it! Such an inspiration! When I was at the Bikram Training last year in Phuket I met a trainee Carina who shared my love of one pieces and recently she has shared her inspirational story of how Bikram yoga has changed her life. "I'm here to prove that this yoga is transformational," she said. "If you're open to receiving, you never know what the universe will give you. I'm so grateful to be where I am." Bikram Yoga is not just a physical workout, it's a deeply therapeutic way of healing the body, mind and soul and I see it every time I'm in the room, teaching or practicing. The yoga has certainly transformed my life for the better, building myself back from so many physical ailments and getting rid of depression and mind clutter. This article is just another reminder of how wonderful this yoga is! Jim Kallett, a senior Bikram Yoga teacher, who graduated in 1997 during Bikram's 5th Yoga Teacher Training, owner of Bikram Yoga San Diego is hosting a 13 week internet radio talk show where he discusses everything to do with yoga, and how it addresses the fundamental questions and concerns of life. It will focus on some history of Yoga, especially in the West, what is Yoga, current trends and what it means, the practical application of Yoga, proper techniques, safety, effective use, precautions, and the reality. How the proper practice of Yoga is the best, safest, most scientific tool for improving the quality and longevity of one’s life . The fifth week focuses on Conversation with Jill Ippolito, Uprising Yoga. “Happily, as Yoga has become so increasingly more accessible and practiced by more and more people around the world, I am excited to be able to contribute to the redirection of the discussion of Yoga (especially Bikram Yoga), back to it’s primary principles, to the practice of Hatha Yoga Asana done safely, effectively, and properly. It’s more important than ever….”

As a Bikram teacher I find that other teachers or practitioners from other styles of yoga quite often offer such resistance when they come into the hot room, or have some preconceived notion when they heard that we teach 'hot' yoga. I remember a friend and fellow teacher who participated in a yoga CPR course, and when she introduced herself as a Bikram teacher, a Vinyasa teacher made a face and said to her "you will never see me in a Bikram room".
Well written article addressing not only how yoga can affect society right now in the present moment, but also the effect it has long term on society as a whole. From school dropouts to PTSD in veterans, to substance abuse among all age groups, all these cost countries trillions of dollars, yet studies have shown that yoga as a therapeutic source of practicing mindfulness can help reduce and one day prevent these costs as well as promote general wellbeing.

Jim Kallett Bikram yoga certainly has changed my life, and this is yet another inspiring story of how it has affected someone else. From the students who courageous walk into the room and open themselves up to healing, to the teachers who inspire and give out their energy, to the studio owners who offer a safe and nurturing haven for everyone to come be themselves and create their own empowerment. Yoga is life, here's how it changed mine!

"I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become" Carl Gustave Jung I'm Binny, a full time Bikram Yoga teacher and studio owner that lives in Perth, Australia.
I started this blog to share the things I love the best in the world: being healthy and happy, food (especially raw), yoga, traveling and most importantly, learning how to love and be true to myself. I suffered from severe digestive problems when I was younger, being gluten and lactose intolerant, and developed compartment syndrome and fibromyalgia in my teens. I have lived with constant pain for over 16 years now. Over the past 10 years, I've shifted to a mainly plant based diet and realised that being well and healthy is a way of life. I have been teaching Bikram yoga since 2011, in the US and Australia. Due to my health issues I've also had a lot of bodywork done as well as explored alternative therapies. I've become much more aware of myself as a result of all this - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Right now I love my life. In my career I love what I do and I do what I love. I have traveled to some amazing places around the world and made lifelong friends. In between working and traveling, I cook up a storm in the kitchen, especially raw desserts, spend time with the people I love the best, which now includes a yoga husband, a mini yogini Estell, and our dog! I try to listen to my body the best I can. I truly believe that we all have the power and the capabilities to heal our own bodies, to nourish the spirit and seek our own happiness and life's purpose. This my journey... Archives
